My fixed rate is due to come to an end with Alliance & Leicester. When switching mortgage products with the same lender is a credit check carried out? My husband (higher earner) has excellent credit history, mine is poor with current defaults. We have been with this lender for 6 years and never missed payment.
So long as you are not borrowing more money at the same time, Santander will not carry out a credit check. You should call 0800 092 3881 option 1 to check the deals that are available to you.
Due to your recent credit history I would be surprised if you are able to obtain a better deal by remortgaging, but you should speak to an independent mortgage adviser to see what options are open to you. Make sure you tell them about the defaults to save wasting your time applying to a lender who is not going to offer you a mortgage.
