Will my living in the property, affect my wife's sole mortgage application?

My wife recently applied for a mortgage but was rejected on the basis me being her spouse was a risk. Why would this affect a sole application.She then has gone to another lender and re-applied again as a sole mortgage will the previous rejection affect this application. My name is only going to be on the occupancy and my financials are not included on the application either???
Lenders all have slightly different ways of deciding whether they will accept an application or not. It may well be that knowing you are going to be residing in the property, has affected the affordabilty calculation for the lender. Without knowing the lender's involved it's not easy to say why this was the case.
