Leaving the marital home

Posted on 11 October 2012 by Sean Donaldson

I have a mortgage with my wife, I wish to leave both her and the house, leaving the house to her. Would I be able to get another mortgage and set up on my own?

The short answer to your question is yes you can! However as with anything like this, the devil will be in the detail. Will your wife be able to take over the current mortgage on her or will your salary still be required to support the loan. Will there be any maintenance to pay and if so how much ? How much of a deposit will you have to put down on your new property ? All of these questions will form part of a new lenders assessment of your new mortgage application.

If you would like to pursue this further, I can arrange for one of our consultants to contact you and discuss in more detail.
