I've just found out I'm still on my ex's mortgage. Where do I stand ?

25yrs ago, persuaded by my boyfriends parents I signed up to a mortgage with him. I was in full time employment and he was unemployed and initially I paid all the bills. He became abusive and I moved out. At the time I wrote to the mortgage company to tell them of my situation. Since then I have made a new life for myself. I have just had a call out of the blue from my ex who managed to track me down and says that my name is still on the agreement and wants me to remove my name from the deeds so he can re mortgage (as far as I can gather he is still unemployed and the original mortgage still stands). He is going to send me a form to complete but can you advise where I stand with this? Am I entitled to anything? Am I likely to owe anything? Quite honestly I am in something of a state of shock and would appreciate any advice you can give me.

Kate,

It may well be that you are due something, however I would recommend that you speak to a solicitor before signing anything, to establish exactly what your rights and entitlements are.

Regards,

Simon
