Is Dad's wife still entitled to half the equity after 8 years?

Posted on 24 January 2013 by James

My dad is still married to his wife, but she left him 8 years ago for another man, and she now lives in Portugal with him. My father has paid all the bills and the 2 mortgages on properties that they jointly own. She hasn't contributed for anything but now she wants him to sell and share the profits 50/50. Is she entitled to do so ?

James,

This really is more of a legal matter, and it's not a straightforward answer either. There are a number of factors that would be taken into account, so getting yoru dad good legal advice is crucial.

We do have good relationships with a number of solicitors, and if you would like me to, we can arrange for you to have an initial dicussion with them, to try to give you an indication of a likely outcome.

Regards,

Alistair
