I am a UK national working as an EXPAT in Paris for the last 3 years. I now wish to buy a main UK residence in the UK, for when I return to work in the UK. Is this possible, also I assume credit check will be done on my french credit history as I have been here for more than 3 years?
This is most certainly possible and the options available to you now very much depend on your future intentions. If you are planning to return to the UK and live in the property in the foreseeable future it should be possible to arrange a residential mortgage. However, if you are unlikely to return within the next 3 years, it is more likely that you will need a BTL mortgage.
The credit check is always a problem with applicants currently based abroad. All UK lenders will want to search any addresses you have used within the last 3 years and unless they also have a presence in France this will be difficult. I think it more likely that you will have success with an international bank or the Offshore arm of a major UK bank.
I believe you would benefit from speaking to one of our independent mortgage advisers. Please call on 0344 346 3672 and tell the adviser the date of your question, they will be able to look at your situation and take it from there.
