Am I entitled to 50% of the equity?

Posted on 12 February 2013 by Alison

I have been with my partner for 8yrs, we're not married,I have daughter by my ex-husband. We bought the home together, and now it's on the market for sale. My daughter and I are in rented. My partner put in more money than me to buy the house, but it was bought jointly, we paid bills jointly and the the mortgage jointly. Am I entitled to 50/50 split?

Alison,

This is really a legal matter, and from personal experience there's not a straight forward answer. I can only recommend that you speak to a solicitor, explain your situation and take their advice, and you should do so prior to any sale being agreed.
