Names on a Mortgage and the Registered Title

Can I take out a mortgage of 10% of the value of a house jointly owned with my wife and currently mortgage free, then at a later date my wife take out a mortgage in her name for a similar amount?


The short answer to your question is no. A mortgage has to be in the same names as the title of the property, although some Lenders will accept additional borrowers.

Without knowing what you are trying to achieve it is difficult to give you any advice and I recommend that you speak to an independent mortgage broker about your situation.
