I have just applied to borrow money on my mortgage with Abbey. My existing mortgage is with Halifax and I have missed one payment although it was paid just a few days later. Will Abbey turn me down for a mortgage with them because of this?

Answered by: Nicholas Mendes

It is unlikely just one late payment will mean an automatic decline by Abbey, but it will depend on the rest of your application. In fact so many things go to make up the credit score, such as credit history, loan to value, earnings, employment status, whether or not you are on the voters roll and banking history, that if you are declined even Abbey will not be able to tell you if it was specifically because of the late payment.
