The phrase 'Would suit a DIY enthusiast' tops the language most likely to put off homebuyers, a new survey has shown.
One in five respondents said they would ignore adverts that included the DIY cliché - which alludes to the need for a large amount of renovation work – according to the YouGov poll of 2,307 people in the UK.
'Bijou property' – widely taken as meaning tiny - was reported as the next most off-putting term, with 'Convenient for motorway access' (taken as 'noisy') close behind.
The survey was commissioned by Craigslist, the classified ads website popular with property hunters.
Jim Buckmaster, chief executive of Craigslist, remarked: "Certain phrases appear so often in property ads that they have become clichés.
"Many are also euphemisms. They say one thing but mean another, which rings alarm bells for a lot of people reading them."
