Acceptable forms of ID and proof of address

You must provide one proof of identity (ID) and one proof of address (POA) and an additional item of either ID or POA from the approved list below. The additional item must be provided from a separate source i.e. 2 bank statements; one for a savings account and a second for a current account from the same provider would not be accepted.

If you are making a joint application then bills in joint names may be considered as one proof of address for each of the named individuals on that bill. Where you have recently married and have not made the appropriate changes to your documentation please also include your marriage certificate.

Personal Identity:

  • Current valid (signed) full UK Passport;
  • Current valid (signed) overseas Passport;
  • Current valid EEA Member State ID card;
  • Current Residency Permit issued by Home Office;
  • Current Full UK Driving License ;
  • Current UK / EU Photocard Driving License;
  • Current Firearms/Shotgun Certificate;
  • Current State Pension book/notification letter;
  • Current Benefits Agency Book/letter;
  • Sub-contractor’s Certificate;
  • Current years Inland Revenue Tax Code Notification.

Address verification:

  • Mortgage Statement or Mortgage Redemption Statement (12);
  • Recent Utility Bill – Gas, Electricity, Water, Telephone (Not mobile phones) (3);
  • Council Tax Bill (12);
  • Current Full UK Driving License (Paper document);
  • Current UK / EU Photocard Driving License;
  • House or motor insurance certificate (12);
  • Current State Pension book/notification letter (12);
  • Current Benefits Agency Book/letter (12);
  • Current Local Authority Rent Card;
  • Rent Book or Tenancy Agreement;
  • Bank / Building Society / Credit Union Statement or passbook (3);
  • Solicitor letter confirming completion of house purchase or land registration ;
  • Credit Card Statements from main provider (3) ;
  • Official Documentation from Her Majesty’s Revenue And Customs (this does not include P60’s)(12.

Figure in ( ) is the maximum acceptable age of the document in months (on date of verification) if it is to be deemed current.

Where you cannot provide the full documentation required (as set out below) your consultant will not be able to process your case and you may experience significant delays in your application.

  1. Only Photocard provisional driving licences are acceptable.
  2. Proof of the previous address should also be obtained.
  3. Credit card statement can be used as a second proof of address only by the following acceptable providers (this list includes any other brand cards that are underwritten by these main providers):

    • Abbey

Terms & conditions

Your initial mortgage consultation is obligation free. There will be a minimum fee for our mortgage service of £450, of which £150 is payable when you apply, and we will retain the commission from the mortgage lender. Alternatively, you can choose the fee only option which is typically 0.65% of the amount borrowed. The precise amount will depend on your circumstances and mortgage loan amount, and will be discussed and agreed before you make a mortgage application.



Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
