Loft conversions best way to add value
Posted on 5 June 2007
If you want to increase the value of your property a loft conversion should be top of your list, according to new research.
In the most densely populated pockets of London and the South East they add up to £44,500 to your valuation, according to a report by GE Money Home Lending. The next most valuable activities were adding an extension and building a conservatory.
Kitchen and bathroom refurbishments were judged by homeowners to be the top two improvements, but in terms of return on investment estate agents said they ranked at only fourth and seventh places respectively.
Redecoration was also much more highly rated by homeowners (third place) than estate agents (eighth). Agents said the least useful projects were new flooring, outdoor decking and resurfaced driveways.
