Would a UK lender give me a mortgage on a property abroad?
Posted on 29 September 2007
How feasible is to take out a 100% mortgage via a UK lender on a property in Portugal?
A UK lender would not be able to secure a mortgage on a property abroad unfortunately, because they would not be legally able to repossess it if necessary. However, many lenders have branches abroad that do their own lending, or there are many European lenders now that are prepared for UK borrowers such as yourself.
Charcol doesn't arrange mortgages on property abroad unfortunately, but My Colleague Darren Small recommends Matthew Weston at: matthew.weston@blevinsfranks.com
