Can I negotiate with Nationwide on thier home improvement fee?
Posted on 19 March 2008
I currently have a mortgage with nationwide coming to the end of its fixed term. I need to borrow an extra £12,000 for home improvements and there is a fee of £499 for this. This is the same as for new lenders. Is there any way that this can be negotiated so that I can get a better deal than new lenders and to encourage me to remain with them?
Hi Bev,
You might as well ask them. They can show some discretion if they want to retain existing customers.
Weigh up your best option from them, versus your best option for a remortgage deal from someone completely different (and don't forget to count Nationwide's exit fee of £90).
