Mortgage on a main residence... but in a holiday park?

Posted on 8 May 2008

We are interested in purchasing a 'holiday home' the difference is we will be living in it 12 months of the year (1 weekend a month away)is this something we could get a mortgage on, its classed as a holiday home because it is on a holiday park site?

Then it would not be a holiday home for lender’s purposes, it would be your main residence.  As long as it is a standard purchase of a standard building (not a caravan, terrapin or mobile unit), and you don’t have your residential mortgage elsewhere, then you can mortgage it. The valuer will obviously comment as the transient nature of neighbours will have some effect.
