Is it possible for me to get a mortgage in the UK while living and working in Paris?

Posted on 24 April 2008

I live and work in Paris. I own 3 properties outright with no mortgage. I have only one home improvement loan of 56,000 Euros (about £40,000). I have seen a property in England for £175,000. Is there any way I can buy this before having sold one of my properties in France? The House I am thinking of selling is worth about £252,000 (320,000 Euros). I would be grateful if you could suggest any possible solutions.

Best Regards,

James

Hi James,

Foreign nationals or ex-pats can take a mortgage here, you would just need to find a deposit, I would say around 25% if you live abroad otherwise permanently. You could raise this by remortgaging one of your French properties, to raise the cash.  If you think this is possible, give us Charcol a call on 0800 358 55 60 and we can co-ordinate the application for you too. Applying from abroad can suffer from a lot of missed application forms.
