Can I get a CIFAS reference removed from my credit file?

Posted on 4 September 2007

I recently applied for a mortgage on an apartment I was intending to let out but rather naughtily, did not take out a buy-to-let mortgage, in order to get a better rate and minimise the fees. The mortgage provider discovered this and refused my application but put a note on my credit file relating to CIFAS stating that I had made an incorrect/dishonest application. My overall credit rating is excellent as I have not missed a single payment in the last 6 years. Is there any way I can get this CIFAS reference removed as it may prevent me from borrowing in the future?

Hi Bobby, unfortunately not.  Deception of any sort is considered a fraudulent activity.  On the plus side, it could have been much worse than just a CIFAS record.
