Can expats get a mortgage in the UK?
Posted on 25 July 2008
I am a 37 year old service manager, I have been working in Saudi Arabia for the last 9 years - what advice could you give me if i wanted to get a morgage to purchase a property while still an expatriate - this property would not be let.
Andy,
Thank you for your question.
Most lenders will lend to British Expats, however each lender will have a different criteria for you to fit into. The areas that can influence your application are the answer you provide to the following questions: is your income paid in sterling or local currency, the size of the company you work for - is it a blue chip company or a small unknown name? Do you plan to return to the UK? And if so, when?
You will also need to provide proof of your identification and address to the lender so it would be a good idea to prepare your documentation in advance.
The best advice I can give is to seek advice from a mortgage broker who will be able to take your details and complete the research for you. You can contact one of our Charcol brokers on 0845 413 1053.
