Am I eligible for a key worker mortgage?

Posted on 28 August 2007

I am a civil servant currently working for Her Majesty's Courts Service, part of the Ministry of Justice. I understand that the government runs a 'key workers' mortgage scheme. Can you give me any information as to whether this applies to me and, if so, how I can obtain such a mortgage?

I believe that you have to speak to your own HR department to ascertain whether your employer/Ministry has been granted allowance for their staff to be eligible (places are limited and governmental departments/schools etc. have to apply).  Once you have done this, i'm told you are allocated a Keyworker advisor who will give you information on which sort of grant/loan is available to you.  After this, you can come to us and we will match you up with a lender.  This is the easy part; there are several now who offer mortgages to combine with Keyworker schemes.
