History

Charcol is a mortgage broker operating by telephone providing mortgages from a panel of reputable lenders. Charcol was developed out of John Charcol an independent mortgage broker that began life back in 1974. It grew to be one of the biggest players in the market, enjoying a reputation for quality advice and friendly service. For a brief period, between 2000 and 2004, the company was owned by the Bradford and Bingley Building Society, but John Charcol is now back in independent hands.

Ray Boulger, our mortgage spokesperson continues to be the most quoted mortgage expert in the national press and our long-standing relationship with the UK’s leading debt management charity, the Consumer Credit Counselling Service is a testament to our knowledge and understanding.
